Apple's Spaceship-Shaped HQ
Apple Compound Apple's spaceship-like compound (complete with parking reached through tunnels and 100,00 square foot fitness center) is moving steadily along. The 176 acre construction site, known as Campus 2, is being built in Cupertino, CA, and is budgeted at $5 billion. The new company is meant to be completely sustainable in terms of energy from solar panels on the roof among other design elements meant to keep the building cool. Test Site Michigan christened the site for its much-hoped for autonomous-vehicle testing plant. The 335-acre piece of land is just an half-hour outside of Detroit, and is expected to become a testing center for self-driving cars by the end of 2017. Also planned is a test track, and eventually a potential cybersecurity center to test the way cars and the roads communicate and work together. (Via Car and Driver)
Muni Hack San Francisco's Municipal Railway—which also includes local buses—was hacked on Friday allowing riders to get on for free into Saturday. How the hack was resolved was not explained. But Muni cars were working (and yes, collecting fares) as of Sunday. (Via San Francisco Examiner)
Not Playing Nice The idea that Android and iOS plays nice is practically accepted at this point. Yes, they're different operating systems. But texting, emailing—sending images from one to the other is seamless. Except when it's not. Currently, screenshots from iPhone 7 Plus sent to new Pixel or Pixel XL's are coming across distorted when sent through SMS or in Hangouts. No word on a fix yet. So maybe consider emailing your Pixel pal your images for now. (Via Android Police)
