Gear Up On IoT: California Wants Drivers In Driverless Cars + More Apple Rumors

Five IoT news bites to start your Monday.

California's Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) may be putting a damper on the whole self-driving car concept. The group is proposing new rules that would require a licensed driver in driverless cars to operate them if needed. With car manufacturers reporting that operators have had to take over driverless cars during testing phases, regulators have concerns. The issue came up at a DMV workshop in Sacramento, CA. last week.

Apple iOS updates aren't playing nice with Bluetooth connections in cars according to some users. The problem? When a call ends, radio or other music programs reportedly won't turn back on in select models of Land Rover, Buick and other cars.

The Apple rumor mills are churning again with Apple's March event just around the corner. What will we see? Most believe an Apple Watch 2 is not on the immediate horizon. But an iPad 3 plus the iPhone 5se—a 4-inch version of Apple's smartphone—are both expected to be unveiled.

Samsung phones will now support content and ad blocking plugins on pre-installed browsers. Ad blockers are already part of Apple's iOS.

Finally, Huawei's Honor 5X went on sale yesterday priced at $199 — definitely on the lower price point for smartphones. The Android device comes with a fingerprint scanner and a 13-megapixel rear camera.
