CES Update: New IoT Devices To Watch
At CES, media outlets like to focus on big and established technology brands. We've done this too, looking at connected cars, smart appliances and voice activation devices. But there are a lot of new companies, bringing innovative and game-changing IoT technology to market. Here are a few of GearBrain's picks we think are worth keeping an eye on over the next year.
Nonda
Did you know 75 percent of the cars on the road today do not have Bluetooth? Nonda's app turns these cars into connected cars. Their Zus Smart Car charger provides simplicity, quality and accessibility to cars and their phones. In 2017, they are expanding their Zus product line with new key finders, sensors and cables that bring convenience and safety to any car.
Kino-mo
Kino-mo allows 3D videos and images to float in the air as holograms. Their technology is designed for the retail space and is a good way to promote products or brands.
Prevent Biometrics
Have you watched how the NFL or college football handles concussions? Wouldn't it be great to have a way to determine if a player had a concussion and turn that into a data driving process? Prevent Biometrics has come out with a new head impact monitor that can accurately detect potential concussions, particularly great for younger players.
In&motion
In&motion has developed a new smart wearable protection system which can reduce injuries in case of a fall. They have developed a smart air bag technology in a vest which can be worn by skiers/snowboarders and now bikers. They've won numerous awards (CES Innovation Award in 2016 and an CES Innovation Award Honoree in 2017) with a ski vest available now and a biker vest on the market next year.
Parihug
Have you ever been on a business trip, or away from home, and just wanted to get a hug from a loved one? Parihug, seamlessly integrates touch into its plush IoT toys, allowing users to hug the device and in return get a hug back in real time from a loved one. Don't worry if you are not around when your loved one wants to hug you. The company has a smartphone app that will send you an alert when a hug is waiting.
Cosmo Connected
Cosmo Connected has developed a connected helmet and smartphone app for motorcyclists, skiers, bicyclists and other athletes that need to wear a helmet. Their new innovative and patented stoplight system on the back of the helmet acts as a brake light, potentially helping to reduce accidents and strengthen the safety of users.
Revinax
Revinax has developed a virtual reality app called Surgevry. This app brings a mobile VR experience to tutorials for healthcare professionals. Surgevry uses real 3D videos with integrated data to explain a medical procedure to students, patients and caregivers. Imagine (or not) seeing through the eyes of your surgeon as they performed your surgery. The app is already being used as an teaching tool for medical students.
