Insta360 has introduced the Insta360 X6, its latest flagship 360-degree camera and one of the biggest upgrades yet to the company’s X Series. Designed for travelers, action-sports enthusiasts, motorcyclists, cyclists, content creators, and anyone who wants to capture an entire scene without worrying about framing, the X6 combines an 8K 360 camera, subject-tracking camera, and conventional action camera in a single device.

Starting at $699.99, the Insta360 X6 goes on sale August 12, 2026. It arrives with larger sensors, substantially more processing power, native Dolby Vision, longer battery life, improved replaceable lenses, built-in storage, AI-powered editing, and an accessory ecosystem that can adapt the camera to everything from diving to motorcycle rides.

There is also AdaptiveTone 2.0, which meters each lens independently and captures two exposures per frame to increase dynamic range.

Another notable upgrade is native in-camera Dolby Vision, which Insta360 says is a first for a 360 camera.

Dolby Vision uses dynamic metadata to adjust contrast and brightness on a frame-by-frame basis. The X6 also supports 10-bit color, allowing it to record more than 1.07 billion colors.

Those capabilities could be especially useful for creators who want more polished footage without spending significant time color grading.

More advanced creators aren't left out, however. The X6 can shoot in I-Log, providing greater flexibility when grading footage during post-production. Insta360 Studio remains available free for Mac and Windows for stitching, multi-clip editing, and exporting 360 content.

One of the reasons to choose a 360 camera instead of a conventional action camera is the ability to reframe footage.

The X6 records native 8K 360 video at up to 50 frames per second. Instead of pointing the camera directly at your subject, you can concentrate on what you're doing and select your preferred angle afterward.

The X6 has a four-microphone 360-degree omnidirectional windproof array, along with a separate Hidden Engine Mic designed specifically for motorcycle riders. Insta360 says the latter filters wind while isolating engine sounds.

An Intelligent Audio Mode can automatically adjust recording based on the surrounding environment.

Creators who want external audio can directly connect two Insta360 Mic Air or Mic Pro transmitters simultaneously.

PanoMind Brings AI Editing Directly to the Camera

Perhaps one of the most interesting X6 features isn't related to its lenses at all.

Insta360 PanoMind is the company's new 360-native AI model. According to Insta360, it was trained using more than 10,000 hours of footage across more than 30 scenarios, including travel, everyday life, winter sports, motorcycles, diving, and cycling.

Its AI Director can analyze footage while the X6 is charging and automatically create highlight videos, which are then delivered to the Insta360 app.

Importantly, Insta360 says this analysis occurs on the camera rather than in the cloud, and users can turn the feature off.

The new Moments Pro, built with Google Gemini, takes a different approach to automated editing. Users can specify a subject, mood, style, and timeframe, and the service generates a video based on those instructions.

Think of the two AI systems this way: AI Director attempts to decide what's interesting and build an edit automatically, while Moments Pro gives the user more direction over the type of video they want created.

More Than 100 Accessories

The X6 makes the most sense for buyers who want maximum flexibility from a single camera.

Travelers can capture an entire location without constantly thinking about composition. Cyclists, skiers, and motorcyclists can record themselves and the environment simultaneously. Families can capture events without worrying about whether the camera happened to be pointing in the right direction. Content creators can turn one recording into multiple shots and social-media formats.

For travelers, outdoor adventurers, riders, athletes, and creators who frequently miss shots because the action happens outside a conventional camera's frame, that capability remains the fundamental reason to choose a 360 camera. The X6 builds on it with better imaging hardware, faster processing, longer battery life, more durable replaceable lenses, and increasingly sophisticated AI tools.
