All three locks are Matter-certified and support major platforms, including Apple Home and Google Home. Their main differences are the door types they fit and how they recognize an authorized user. Bolt Mission is a deadbolt built around precise, hands-free entry using ultra-wideband technology. Bolt Pro is a deadbolt that emphasizes digital keys stored in a compatible mobile wallet, while Latch 5 Pro brings that wallet-based experience to lever-style doors.

What is UWB hands-free unlocking?

Ultra-wideband, commonly abbreviated UWB, can measure the distance and direction between compatible devices more precisely than a basic Bluetooth proximity signal. ULTRALOQ uses that capability in Bolt Mission to determine whether an authorized person is actually approaching the door from outside.

This distinction matters. A proximity-only lock could potentially react merely because an authorized phone is close to the door, even when its owner is moving around inside the home. Bolt Mission combines Bluetooth Low Energy discovery, UWB ranging, radar-based presence sensing, and local decision logic to identify what ULTRALOQ describes as a true arrival rather than simple proximity.

When an authorized user approaches, the phone can remain in a pocket or bag while the Xthings Home app runs in the background. The user does not need to open the app, type a PIN, or install a separate hub for the hands-free feature, according to ULTRALOQ.

Built-in radar helps the lock remain attentive when relevant and conserve energy at other times. ULTRALOQ also says the intent-detection decision is processed locally between the authorized phone and the lock, which should allow the door to respond without sending that decision to the cloud.

Buyers should confirm that their particular smartphone supports the required UWB functions. ULTRALOQ had not provided GearBrain with a complete list of compatible phones, battery-life estimates or all backup entry methods for Bolt Mission at the time of this announcement.
