Over the past few months, we have tested many types of headphones. We have tested over-the-ears, in-the-ears, and wireless headphones. We have used Bluetooth wireless earbuds and earphones. Recently, we came across the new SoundPEATS Engine4 wireless earbuds and liked what we heard. So, here is our review of the SoundPEATS Engine4 Wireless Earbuds.

What are the SoundPEATS Engine4 Wireless Earbuds?

SoundPEATS Engine4 earbuds are a pair of wireless earbuds that offer excellent sound quality and long battery life. They are the first Hi-Res Audio Wireless certified dual-driver earbuds that support LDAC cod. (Note: LDAC mode is only compatible with Android devices. ). These earbuds also feature coaxial dual-driver units, which provide a wide soundstage and deep bass.

The Engine 4 wireless earbuds have a battery life of up to 12.5 hours on a single charge, and the charging case provides an additional 43 hours of battery life. The earbuds are also IPX4 sweatproof to withstand your workouts and other active activities.

In addition to their excellent sound quality and long battery life, the Engine 4 earbuds also offer several other features, such as Bluetooth 5.3 connectivity for a stable and reliable connection, low latency mode for gaming and watching videos, touch controls for easy playback and volume control, dual device connection for connecting to two devices simultaneously and my favorite, a companion app for customizing EQ settings and other features.

How do you control your SoundPEATS Engine4 Wireless Earbuds?

Controlling the Engine4 earbuds is simple if you have worn or used any SoundPEATS wireless earbuds. The first thing you need to do is download the SoundPEATS app.

The SoundPEATS app can be downloaded from the Google Play Store or the App Store. This app will allow you to customize the touch controls, adjust the EQ settings, and update the firmware of your earbuds.

Once you have downloaded the app, please open it and follow the instructions to pair your earbuds. Once your earbuds are paired, you can use the app to customize the touch controls, adjust the EQ settings, and update the firmware of your earbuds.

We are familiar with their touch controls since we have tested many SoundPEATS earbuds. To control the SoundPEATS Engine 4 earbuds, here are how the touch controls on the earbuds work:

  • Play/pause: Double-tap the left or right earbud once.
  • Next track: Hold the right earbud until you hear a beep (about 1-2 seconds).
  • Previous track: Double-tap the left earbud.
  • Volume up: Tap on the right earbud.
  • Volume down: Tap on the left earbud.
  • Answer/end call: Tap the left or right earbud once.
  • Reject call: Tap the left or right earbud for 2 seconds.
  • Change Modes: three taps on the left earbud
Tip: the sensors on the earbuds are sensitive. Make sure you hit the center of the earbuds to complete your control.

How much does the SoundPEATS Engine4 Wireless Earbuds cost?

The SoundPEATS Engine4 Wireless Earbuds have an MSRP of $69.99 but are listed on the SoundPEATS site for $59.99 as of this writing. You can purchase these earbuds on the company site and Amazon, which also lists the price as $59.99. Is this a reasonable price for wireless earbuds? If you are looking for affordable wireless earbuds with excellent sound quality and long battery life for less than $75, this is a good choice, especially if using an Android device.

Performance

We tested these wireless earbuds for a few months. We wanted to see how long the battery lasted and how the earbuds held up when used on long walks or our commute to work. We can say the battery life was perfect. We got more than two months of battery life with the Engine4 earbuds. We used them for about an hour or two a day. The case is small and durable. We dropped it several times by accident, and it held up nicely. But there were a few issues we experienced.

The first issue was the sound quality. We like how the SoundPEATS app comes with a built-in EQ. We are big fans of earbuds and headphones that allow you to adjust the sound mix to fit your listing preferences. The SoundPEATS app has a feature called Adaptive EQ. This is an ear test you take to create an Adaptive EQ profile, which sets the perfect sound mix in each earbud. The app also offers presets for you to choose from. There are nine profiles: SoundPEATS classic, Bass boost, Bass reduction, Electronic, Classical Music, Fashionista, Rock&roll, Folk, and Tremble enhancement. You can also set your custom levels without taking the ear test.

In testing the various presets, I found them to be okay; however, the bass sound was weak. Even when we used the bass boost setting, it didn't provide a deep sound, which surprised us. So, we took the Adaptive EQ test, and the sound improved drastically for me. It got me the best sound mix for my ears. Note: we have tested many SoundPEATS headphones and found that we have to take the Adaptive EQ test for each of these headphones. An Adaptive EQ test for another SoundPEATS earbuds or headphones did not translate to a good sound mix for us with the Engine4. This is something to be aware of if you own multiple SoundPEATS headphones and earbuds and use the same app.

As for the design of the earbuds, they are a little bulky for my ears, but for some, it might be right. If you can try them on before buying, that would be great. Also, the touch sensors are sensitive, and you have to touch the center of the earbuds to get the control you want with the earbuds. But the earbuds are lightweight, which is good.

Summary

Headphones come in various designs today. You have wired and wireless over-the-ear headphones, wireless earbuds, in-ear earbuds, and over-the-ear earbuds. The Engine4 are wireless earbuds that have touch controls and allow you to adjust the EQ settings for the earbuds via their free app. There is a game mode you can use if you play many games on your smartphone, but if you are looking for an excellent immersive bass sound, the Engine4 is not the fitting earbuds for you. They are the right earbuds for those looking for affordable earbuds with long-lasting battery life and the ability to get a high-quality personalized sound mix if willing to take the ear test in their app.
