Vivint Smart Home Users Lose Alexa+ Integration: What You Need to Know

Vivint chooses privacy over Amazon’s new Alexa+, leaving users with current Alexa support but no future integration.

Amazon’s Alexa voice assistant has long been a popular way for Vivint Smart Home users to control lights, locks, thermostats, and other connected devices with simple voice commands. But a recent announcement from Vivint brings an important change: Vivint Smart Home systems will not support Amazon’s new Alexa Plus (Alexa+) platform.

This means that while your current Alexa integrations will continue to work for now, if you upgrade to Amazon’s next-generation Alexa+, you won’t be able to connect Vivint devices with the new system. Let’s break down what this means, why it’s happening, and what options you have to keep your smart home running smoothly.

Why Vivint Is Opting Out of Alexa+

In a statement to customers, Vivint explained that Amazon has changed its requirements for Alexa+ integrations. Specifically, Amazon now requires increased access to customer system data in order for third-party devices and services—like Vivint’s smart home platform—to work with Alexa+.

Vivint, however, has chosen not to comply. The company said its decision comes down to a commitment to customer privacy and security, which are core principles in the way it designs products and partnerships.

“Vivint designs its products, services, and experiences with our customers’ privacy and security top of mind, and those remain our priorities for every partnership. It is because of this commitment that we’ve made the difficult decision not to support integration with Alexa+ at this time.” – Vivint Team

For Vivint users, this means Alexa+ support is off the table until further notice.

The good news is that if you’re using the existing Alexa platform (the current Amazon Echo, Echo Show, or Alexa-enabled devices), your integrations should continue to work as they do today. You can still:

The only caveat is if you transition to Alexa+. Once you migrate to Amazon’s upgraded Alexa platform, Vivint devices will no longer integrate.

What Alexa+ Brings—and Why It Matters

Alexa+ is Amazon’s major upgrade to its voice assistant. It’s designed to be smarter, faster, and more context-aware. Amazon is positioning Alexa+ as a next-generation AI-powered home hub that can better anticipate user needs, respond naturally to complex commands, and manage larger smart home ecosystems.

For example, Alexa+ is expected to:

  • Use more advanced AI to understand conversational voice requests
  • Handle multi-step tasks in a single command
  • Offer deeper integrations with Amazon’s ecosystem of services and devices

But these improvements come with new requirements for third-party device makers—like Vivint—to share more system data with Amazon. And that’s the sticking point.

If you’re a Vivint customer, this change may leave you wondering what smart devices still work with your system—and how to future-proof your home. That’s where GearBrain’s Compatibility Find Engine comes in.

The GearBrain Assistant is designed to help you:

  • Check Compatibility – Find out instantly which smart devices—locks, lights, thermostats, cameras, sensors, speakers, and displays—work with Vivint.
  • Compare Alexa Devices – Identify which Alexa smart displays and smart speakers (from Echo Dots to Echo Shows) are compatible with your existing Vivint setup before considering Alexa+.
  • Explore Alternatives – If Alexa+ is part of your future plans, GearBrain can help you find other devices and ecosystems that may offer similar functionality while remaining compatible with your Vivint system.

For example:

  • Smart Locks: See which locks can be controlled by both Vivint and Alexa today.
  • Smart Lights: Discover bulbs and switches that integrate seamlessly into your Vivint scenes.
  • Smart Thermostats: Learn which models work with Vivint’s app and still offer voice control through existing Alexa.

Using GearBrain’s Compatibility Find Engine ensures you won’t get stuck with devices that fail to work if you decide to keep Vivint but avoid Alexa+.

  1. Stay with Current Alexa: If your current Alexa integration is working fine, you don’t need to make any changes. Avoid upgrading to Alexa+ if Vivint compatibility is essential to you.
  2. Use GearBrain Before You Buy: Before adding new devices—especially Alexa-enabled ones—use GearBrain’s Compatibility Find Engine to confirm they’ll work with your Vivint system.
  3. Explore Other Voice Platforms: Vivint also integrates with Google Assistant. If voice control is a must-have and Alexa+ is off the table, you may want to explore how Google’s ecosystem fits into your setup.
  4. Keep an Eye on Updates: Vivint has said it will share any new information it receives from Amazon about Alexa and existing integrations. Future changes may open the door again, but nothing is confirmed.

The Bottom Line

Vivint Smart Home users are facing a key decision: stick with the current Alexa platform, or move to Alexa+ and lose Vivint support. For now, Vivint has put customer privacy ahead of Amazon’s data requirements, and that means no Alexa+ integration at launch.

But that doesn’t mean you’re stuck. With GearBrain’s Compatibility Find Engine, you can confidently choose new smart devices—whether Alexa-enabled or not—that will still work with your Vivint system. From smart locks and lights to thermostats and displays, you’ll know exactly what fits.

Your smart home should be simple, secure, and seamless. And with the right tools, you can keep it that way—even as the platforms around you evolve.
