For the past few months, there has been a lot of talk about Matter, the new wireless standard designed to connect any device to another smart device. And how it will make it easier for users to easily buy a smart device and connect it to their existing smart home network. In this article, we will help you learn more about Matter, show you how to find, buy and connect Matter devices, and learn if any of your existing devices are compatible using our product find engine.

What is Matter?

It is a new wireless standard built upon Internet Protocol (IP) for those who don't know what Matter is. It will enable communication across smart home devices, mobile apps, and cloud services. Think of it as "the standard for connecting smart devices, 'no matter' the wireless connection." In addition, Matter will act as a seal of approval to help buyers of smart connected devices know that what they are buying is secure and reliable. The Connectivity Standards Alliance (CSA) is the trade organization creating and maintaining global standards for Matter and its devices/networks. So, how do you find or know what smart devices are Matter certified or compatible?

How to Find Matter Devices

Our mission is to help consumers find, buy and connect any smart device. We can also help you manage and simplify the integrations using our patented product find engine, which also has a Q&A platform for you to ask questions and get answers from qualified experts. Below is a video that can show you how our platform works:

For Matter products, our platform is easy to use in finding Matter-certified devices. A user must go to the Match Devices link in the Header and select "Ecosystem" in the left Nav. (see below). Then click on "Matter Wireless Protocol". The results will show all the current Matter devices on our platform. Note: we will update the platform as new Matter-certified devices come to market.

Now a user can select any product listed to learn more about the smart device, access owner's manuals, setup guides, and How-to videos, and even ask questions specific to that device. You can also buy a product if you want. (Note: GearBrain does make a commission on any products purchased on our platform and site. All proceeds are used to fund our platform.). But what makes our platform unique is users can also see what Matter products are compatible with their existing devices. All you have to do is sign up with a valid email, add your products to the MyGear section, and you will see your devices appear in the filter on the left. Then select Matter ecosystem and choose your product from the MyGear section in the filter, and it will show you all the compatible Matter-certified products which will work with your smart device. (Here is a link on how to find products on our platform.)

How does GearBrain’s patent IoT Configurator platform differ from search engines?

You might be thinking, I can find compatible products using either Google or Amazon. Why would I use our platform? Because you really can't find compatible devices easily on search engines and retailer's sites and here is why.

Search engines are designed for browsing. As a result, you can spend a lot of time scrolling through pages with the hope of finding something. Our product find engine uses criteria-based searching combined with our patented compatibility IoT configurator to help users find product info quickly and easily. Our patent is very unique. It centers around the ability of a user to search for compatibility for two or more devices across a single ecosystem. How does that work? Let's say a user has a smart light and smart home security system but wants to add a smart lock to their home. However, they want the smart lock to lock whenever they arm their smart home security system. And they want one app to control all their devices, including their security system. The user goes to our platform, tells us what smart light and home security system they have, and can search for smart locks. Our results show them all compatible smart locks and provide guidance on controlling all their smart devices in one app. Search engines can't filter multiple products based on single compatibility without infringing on our patent. And you would have to do another search on how to do the interactions. We do it all in one place at the same time.

Over the coming months, CSA member companies will release new Matter-certified products. Our platform will be updated regularly to ensure we have the most up-to-date list of new compatible Matter devices. We will also update you on how CSA member companies will upgrade their existing product line to become Matter certified. Remember, all Matter products need a controller to handle the setup process. Many manufacturers are developing plans to make their current products compatible with Matter, and it will be a big and possibly complex challenge for all. But don't worry, our platform will help you navigate this new connected world to make sure you have a solution for interoperability.
