Garmin has today announced a pair of new fitness-focused smartwatches, called the Venu 2 and Venu 2S. They are the successors to the original Venu which arrived in 2019.

The wearables offer advanced sleep tracking that records your sleep stages each night, as well as REM, pulse Ox2, movement and breathing. Sleep data is presented on the watch screen the following day, and there's also a set of "structured breathwork activities" designed to help you focus and relax in a bid to improve your sleep.

The pair of watches also an estimation of your fitness age, which was previously only available through the Garmin Connect smartphone app. To calculate this age, the watches use your age, resting heart rate and body fat percentage (taken from a smart scale) or BMI number. Once your fitness age has been calculated, the Garmin watches offer advice on how to improve your fitness and lower that statistic.

This data is presented on a circular AMOLED touchscreen display. The larger Venu 2 has a 45mm case and 22mm band width, while the smaller Venu 2S has a 40mm case and an 18mm band. They are both available in various colors, including blue, black, pale gold, rose gold, silver and slate, each with a strap to match.

Another stat presented by the watches is called Body Battery Energy Monitoring, which tracks your body's energy levels throughout the day in a bid to help you find the best times for activity and rest. This could be useful to work out when best to go to the gym, and when you should stay home.

On a similar note, stress tracking helps show if you are having a calm, balanced or stressful day. Garmin says 'relax reminders' will prompt you to do a short breathing activity when the watch detects particularly high stress levels.

Like other health-centric smartwatches, the Garmin Venu 2 and 2S track your heart rate and include apps for hydration tracking, as well as tools for tracking respiration, menstrual cycle and pregnancy.

For exercise, the watches have animated, on-screen workout instructions for cardio, strength training, yoga, pilates and high-intensity interval training workouts. All exercise data is collected and sent to the Garmin Connect smartphone app via Bluetooth. The watches can also track running, cycling, swimming, treadmill, golf and more, via 25 preloaded GPS and indoor sports apps.

Lastly, there are phone notifications, music streaming from Spotify, contactless payments with NFC and Garmin Pay, and a battery life of up to 11 days. The watches are water resistant to 5ATM, making them safe for swimming and showering. The Garmin Venu 2 is priced at €400 in Europe, with US pricing to come soon.
